There isn't a product we love quite as much as mascara when it comes to giving our eyes that flirty, “come hither” effect. Fiber mascaras promise results comparable to eyelash strips and extensions without the added effort or appointments. Could these fiber mascara promises be true? To find out, we put three fiber-y mascara solutions to the test.
e.l.f. LASH EXTENDING MASCARA, $3
E.l.f. offers us one of the most affordable solutions, and we dig that. Their Lash Extending Mascara gives each lash beautiful definition while effectively lengthening them. Unlike fiber mascara solutions that require alternating between a base and the fibers, this one-coat wonder won't leave you with clumps. For even more dramatic length, apply two, or even three, coats. This product works especially well at coating fine lower lashes for a finishing touch.
L'ORÉAL VOLUMINOUS FALSE FIBER LASHES MASCARA, $8.95
We were pleasantly surprised by how quickly L'Oréal's Voluminous False Fiber Lashes helped us achieve the long, bold lashes we were looking for. The results were dramatic and definitely noticeable. This is a great pick for a quick fix. Two coats is all you really need for that flawless, flirty finish, and you're out the door!
JAPONESQUE FAST LASH THICKENING FIBERS, $15
Japonesque's Fast Lash Thickening Fibers are meant to be paired with your regular mascara. This product's flurry of white polyester fibers vaguely resembles the snow-flocking section of your seasonal Christmas tree lot. We recommend gently tapping off the excess before use to prevent getting the fibers in your eye.
To apply the fibers, coat your lashes generously with regular mascara. While still wet, gently tap the fluffy fibers to the ends of your lashes. Finish by coating with your mascara as the final step. If you're craving extra drama and length, repeat the process. With each layer you’ll build more volume —though you may need to use an eyelash comb to fight the clumps.
Results can definitely vary depending on how skillfully you apply the fibers and what kind of regular mascara you pair it with. We paired it with both Loreal’s Shocking Extension Mascara (for length) and Too Faced’s Better Than Sex Mascara (volumizing). We found results to be more dramatic with Too Faced.
With a steady hand, an ample amount of time for application, a good volumizing mascara and several alternating coats, Japonesque’s fibers can be a true alternative to false lash strips.
