How Brow It?

If your eyes are the windows to your soul, then your brows are your window frames — and you definitely want to keep the coverings on yours looking on point. I, myself, am basically bald in the brow department, so I've played around a lot over the years with all kinds of shapers and fillers, and I'm here to share my top picks with you. I, probably like most, have tried everything from powders to pomades, and a combination of all kinds, and my brow game continues to evolve as I discover new products. Check out what products get a thumbs up so far!

POMADES & MOUSSES

It took a while for me to build up the courage to try filling in my brows with any kind of product that required I use a brush, but after so much buzz about products like Anastasia Beverly Hills' DipBrow Pomade kept making their way around the vloggersphere, I had to suck it up and give it a go. I started with the DipBrow, and have tried a few others, but the ones I've found to have the best staying power and most realistic look are the DipBrow (the reviewers weren't lying), Tarte's EmphasEYES Amazonian Clay Brow Mousse and NYX Cosmetics' Tame & Frame. POWDERS

I almost always have a brow powder in my makeup bag for quick and easy touch ups. They work great as a filler, if you do it right. I've found that using a powder, especially if you don't pick the right shade for you, can yield cartoon-y looking brows, and unless you're into that, then you have to be pretty cautious about the amount you're putting on your brush or whatever tool you're using, and how evenly you're distributing it. It's a bit more tricky to smooth out and even a powder than it is with other brow products like gels or pencils. The three powders I love most are The Balm Cosmetics' BrowPow, which blends very nicely with hairs and looks pretty natural, Guerlain's Eyebrow Kit also delivers a close-to-flawless brow powder experience. What I love about the Guerlain Eyebrow Kit is that it comes with four separate shades for blending, making it much easier to match your natural hair color and  create highlights. Lastly, e.l.f. Studio's Eyebrow Kit is a great, budget-friendly, option that gives more expensive products a serious run for their money. It comes with a pigmented wax and a powder to shape and fill brows to your liking, which is basically a nice 2-for-1! Click any product to shop it!

PENCILS & CRAYONS

My first ever foray into filling in my brows was with a pencil. I felt like it was the least intimidating vehicle for a novice like myself. Over the years, I've tried so many different pencils and crayons and pencil/crayon/spoolie combinations. What I've discovered along my journey for fuller brows is that I love basically anything brow-related from Benefit Cosmetics— especially their Instant Brow Pencil. It's almost, dare I say, fail-proof? It's super easy to apply and lasts pretty much all day long. Most importantly, it looks natural as can be. Another great pencil that delivers natural-looking brows and has staying power is Maybelline's Brow Precise, and at a whopping $8, it doesn't break the bank. It comes in a few different shades and is so worth trying if you're new to the brow game and want to test out a good pencil option. Charlotte Tilbury's Brow Lift is a super amazing, 3-in-1 tool that shapes brows, lifts them and helps to define. It's the perfect lazy glam girl product for flawless framing. Click any product to shop it!

CREAMS & GELS

I've found that creams and gels, and their mascara wand-like delivery systems, are great for a thicker, luscious brow experience. These kinds of products a perfect when trying to achieve a fuller frame for your eyes and are easy enough to work with. First up for review is Bobbi Brown's Natural Brow Shaper. This combination cream/gel controls and shapes unruly brows, all while filling them in and defining them. It dries into a powder-like finish and doesn't leave your brows looking stiff, and according to the the folks at Bobbi Brown, this product can be used for temporary root touch-ups! Benefit Cosmetics' Gimme Brow is a definite industry favorite in this category, and all those expert MUAs can't be wrong. I've tried it. I love it. It's long-lasting formula is water-resistant and smudge-proof, and most importantly, it delivers natural-looking, thicker brows. Finally, Chosungah 22's Dong Gong Minn Brow Maker rounds off this batch of creams and gels, and probably has the funnest packaging out of all three. Bright exterior aside, the product within it is pretty amazing. With just a few simple strokes, this creamy brow mascara provides fullness and definition. It's water and sweat-resistant, and lasts an incredible 24 hours! Click any product to shop it!

SCULPTING & SHAPING

If you're not using a multi-purpose product that will help to shape and sculpt your brows, you'll most likely be looking into something like MAC Cosmetics' Brow Finisher or Anastasia Beverly Hills' Clear Brow Gel. Both these products work wonders when in comes to taming those rogue hairs and helping them stay in place. I prefer to use MAC's Brow Finisher before putting on any defining powders or pomades, or going over my brow with a pencil. The Clear Brow Gel by Anastasia Beverly Hills is meant to be applied after you've already filled in your brows to help hold the hair and filler in place. Joey Healy's Brow Structure Clear Set works similarly to the Clear Brow Gel, but I've found that if I have too much product on the wand, it tends to lift off some of the product on my brow, so don't overdo it or you'll remove everything you're trying to set. When used in the right amount, and applied with a delicate hand, it works like a charm. Click any product to shop it!
